Tour de France 2025 Stage 19 features the last major mountain battle: Col du Pré, Cormet de Roselend, and a brutal finale on La Plagne. Will Pogacar resist another GC assault?
Although the route has been shortened to just 95 kilometres, that doesn't mean the stage lacks drama. Instead, Tour de France 2025 stage 19 compresses a mountain epic into a punchy, high-stakes showdown, featuring three major climbs and a summit finish at La Plagne.
This is the final chance for climbers and general classification contenders to make big moves. The rest of the race will not offer such terrain again.
After a flat opening stretch, the riders tackle the Col du Pré just 20 kilometres into the race. The climb spans 12.6 km at 7.7%, with the latter half consistently above 9%. It’s steep enough to split the race early and give attackers a window of opportunity.
This is where we can expect a breakaway to form, possibly with riders from teams like EF Education-EasyPost, Ineos, or Visma | Lease a Bike trying to play the tactical game.
From the top of the Col du Pré, the riders barely descend before hitting the Cormet de Roselend – 5.9 km at 6.3%. It may not be as tough on paper, but the short distance between the two climbs will take a toll.
Expect regrouping if anyone overcooks it on the first mountain, but also a chance for strong climbers like Sepp Kuss or Thymen Arensman to test their rivals.
Once the descent into the valley is done, all focus shifts to La Plagne. The final climb of Tour de France 2025 stage 19 is long – 19.1 km at 7.2% – but consistent.
That consistency favors those with strong engines and good team support. Will UAE Team Emirates control the pace for Tadej Pogacar, or will Visma | Lease a Bike roll the dice one last time for Jonas Vingegaard?
Though Pogacar continues to look dominant, the cumulative fatigue is real. And if Visma wants to challenge him, it must be now.
With stage 19 being the final mountain opportunity, all eyes will be on the general classification battle. Pogacar leads with confidence, but Vingegaard may try to force one last crack. Meanwhile, outsiders like Felix Gall, Oscar Onley, and even Sepp Kuss could chase glory from the break.
Don't be surprised to see Ben O’Connor, fresh off a queen stage win, give it another go.
Tour de France 2025 stage 19 is perfect for a breakaway win – if they survive the early chaos. Arensman and Kuss are both well-positioned, while Gall and Lipowitz could be dark horses.
But if Pogacar smells blood, he might just stamp his dominance again and go for his fourth stage victory.
