Arsenal hosts PSG for a big clash, and we’re offering betting tips.
This Champions League matchup features two clubs with their sights set on the trophy. Despite their ambitions, neither has ever gone all the way in Europe’s top competition. These two giants have met four times in total, with three draws and one Arsenal victory. Tonight’s betting tip also favors Arsenal, though we mainly expect an entertaining match.
Arsenal vs Paris Saint-Germain
Arsenal struggled at home against Leicester on Saturday but managed to pull off a win after a dramatic finish. However, Tuesday evening brings much tougher opposition to the English capital as Arsenal plays its first Champions League home game of the season.
Mikel Arteta’s men not only underperformed in their last Premier League match but also in their Champions League opener. Only an acrobatic David Raya prevented defeat as he was like a wall in goal, even saving a penalty. Offensively, Arsenal only managed six attempts, with a low xG of 0.78. The Gunners need to show a very different side tonight, as they risk going three straight European matches without scoring—something that would be a first in club history. However, Arsenal was the only club last season to not concede a single goal in the group stage.
Leandro Trossard scored in all four of Arsenal’s home Champions League matches last season, while Bukayo Saka has delivered four goals and three assists in his last five CL home games in London.
On the other side tonight, Arteta faces a former teammate from his younger days at Barcelona, PSG boss Luis Enrique. Enrique’s team doesn’t have the best record in European away matches, particularly in England, where they haven’t won any of their last three games. Overall, they have only managed two wins from their last seven away games and haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 19—since October 2020. Despite this, they reached the semifinals last year but lost to Borussia Dortmund both home and away.
In Ligue 1, PSG has five wins and one draw from their first six matches, but PSG’s domestic dominance is well known. Bradley Barcola scored twice in the 3-1 win against Monaco on Friday, bringing his tally to six goals in six league matches this season.
Arsenal vs PSG
Emirates, Tuesday 9:00 PM
Arsenal enters tonight’s match without Martin Ødegaard, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kieran Tierney, but Mikel Merino, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Riccardo Calafiori have all been spotted in training this week, with Merino potentially making his debut.
For PSG, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Asensio, Vitinha, and Nuno Mendes are all reported to be back, but Ousmane Dembele has fallen out of favor with Enrique and hasn’t traveled to England. Goncalo Ramos, Lucas Hernandez, and Presnel Kimpembe are all out with long-term injuries.
Betting Tips
Both teams are missing key players—Arsenal especially in Ødegaard, while Dembele has been one of PSG’s most important players this season. Home games are crucial to win if you want to advance in this tournament, and as mentioned, PSG’s strength lies in their home performances. The French capital side lost 1-4 when visiting Newcastle last season, and they’re expected to face a tough challenge tonight as well.
Our bet is on a home win (odds 1.70), but we also predict goals from both sides (1.75).
