Former arch-rivals clash in a top-of-the-table Championship match as Leeds visit Millwall at The Den.
The first part of this midweek round in the Championship was completed on Tuesday, with five more games on the schedule tonight. Four of Tuesday’s six matches ended in home wins, while Middlesbrough and Sheffield United returned home with all three points after visits to QPR and Bristol City, respectively.
Sheffield United currently sits second in the table after securing their third consecutive win yesterday. However, those three points were hard-fought during their visit to Bristol City on Tuesday. The home side took the lead with just 15 minutes remaining, and when Ryan Oné equalized in the 86th minute, it seemed like the match would end in a draw at Ashton Gate. Not so. In the eighth minute of added time, Harrison Burrows scored the winning goal against a Robins side that had been reduced to ten men just three minutes earlier.
Sheffield United now only has Sunderland ahead of them in the standings but could be overtaken by Leeds tonight. League leaders Sunderland themselves have an away game against Preston at Deepdale.
Millwall had a modest start to the season, with only one win from their first six matches – and two from their first ten. However, Neil Harris and his team are now unbeaten in their last six matches, with the last three being victories. That’s all it takes to climb high in what is, as always, a tight Championship table.
Sunday’s 1-0 home win against promotion hopefuls Burnley means Millwall was just two points away from a playoff spot before this midweek round. It’s in defense that Millwall has impressed most this autumn, conceding only five goals in their last 11 matches. The last three wins have all been by a 1-0 scoreline.
Millwall faces another tough test tonight, as their guests from Leeds are also in strong form. Daniel Farke’s side is just behind Sunderland and Sheffield United in the Championship standings, with the Whites showing strength both offensively and defensively. Only two teams have scored more than their 22 goals, while the first 13 games have seen only eight goals conceded. They’ve kept a clean sheet in eight out of their first 13 games. With a result at The Den, Leeds would extend their unbeaten run to nine games.
Leeds United also has a few absentees ahead of Wednesday’s game, with midfielders Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev and winger Largie Ramazani still out. Jayden Bogle, however, returns after serving a suspension against Plymouth.
Both teams are in impressive defensive form, so tonight’s Championship clash at The Den is expected to be tight and evenly matched. Under 2.5 goals seems like the most interesting bet, and we also anticipate a high number of cards in this heated rivalry. We’re betting on over 4.5 cards at The Tipster tonight
