Preview: Arsenal – Tottenham

Golden Opportunity for Arsenal

Tuesday’s results worked in Arsenal’s favor as neither Liverpool, Forest, Chelsea, nor Manchester City managed to claim all three points. Arsenal, however, face their own challenges and are set for anything but an easy ride at home against a Tottenham side that gained much-needed confidence from their performance against Liverpool.

No room for further slip-ups

Arsenal find themselves in a precarious position, with one of their most crucial players sidelined due to injury and little room for further slip-ups if they are to claim their first Premier League title since 2004. The clamors for a clinical striker are growing louder. This was evident last Tuesday when Newcastle handed Arsenal a 2-0 defeat in London. Despite Arsenal's 23 shots, only three were on target, while Alexander Isak both scored and assisted Newcastle's second goal. Adding to their woes, Gabriel Jesus has suffered a long-term injury, and Kai Havertz’s struggles in front of goal were underlined against Manchester United.

Extensive injury list

While Arsenal’s title aspirations remain intact, they are under immense pressure to capitalize on their opportunities. Across town, Tottenham’s issues run deeper. Spurs have won only one of their last eight Premier League games, and their fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with manager Ange Postecoglou. However, Tottenham may have turned a corner midweek against Liverpool. Debutant Antonin Kinsky impressed in goal, keeping a clean sheet, while Lucas Bergvall secured the victory with his first-ever goal for Spurs. While their Wembley dreams are alive, Spurs’s record against Arsenal away from home is poor – they haven’t won there since 2018, and their extensive injury list presents another uphill battle.

Tottenham Hotspur

  • Spurs’ only league win in their past eight matches was a 5-0 triumph over bottom-placed Southampton (D2, L5).
  • Since December, only Leicester and Southampton have accumulated fewer points than Spurs’ five.
  • Tottenham have kept consecutive clean sheets in all competitions for only the second time this season.
  • Their 101-game run without a 0-0 draw in the Premier League is the second-longest in the competition’s history, behind Manchester United’s 114-game streak from 1999 to 2002.
  • Dominic Solanke, with 11 opening goals since last season, is second only to Erling Haaland (14) in the Premier League.
  • Dejan Kulusevski has scored eight goals across all competitions this season, matching his tally from the entirety of last season.

The stakes are high in this North London derby, with Arsenal striving to stay in the title race and Tottenham seeking to salvage a faltering campaign. Expect a fiercely contested battle at the Emirates.
