Preview and prediction: Aston Villa – Bayern Munich

ahead of tonight’s much-anticipated clash at Villa Park.

For the first time since 1983, a match in the prestigious European Cup will be played at Villa Park tonight, and when the gates open for the Champions League on Aston Villa’s home ground, it will be none other than Bayern Munich arriving. These two teams met in the European Cup final 42 years ago, when Peter Withe scored the winning goal for Villa. Can the home fans hope for the same result tonight?

Whether it will be revenge or not is probably not what the supporters of both teams are primarily thinking about tonight. Time heals both wounds and joys, and it has indeed been 42 years since their last meeting. The focus tonight is rather on points and goals, which both teams secured plenty of in this season’s first round of the Champions League.

Aston Villa marked their return to the Champions League by beating Young Boys 3-0 in Switzerland, while Bayern confidently smashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2, thanks to four goals from Harry Kane. It’s fair to hope for more goals tonight.

Villa setback

Unai Emery and Villa will be juggling several tournaments this season, and the question is whether they have enough depth in their squad to compete on all fronts. So far, things have gone well, with their only loss coming against Arsenal, and they have gathered 13 points from their first six Premier League matches. However, the 2-2 draw against newly promoted Ipswich on Sunday was undoubtedly a disappointment for Villa fans.

Bayern also faced a setback over the weekend, dropping points in a 1-1 draw against reigning Bundesliga champions Leverkusen. Before this match, Bayern had a perfect record.

Absent Captain

Aston Villa captain John McGinn is sidelined with a hamstring injury and will miss his third consecutive match tonight. Matty Cash is also out, while Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara have both returned to training but are not ready for tonight’s match.

For Bayern, Harry Kane is reported to be fit to start, despite limping off after a knock against Leverkusen. However, Sacha Boey, Josip Stanisic, and Hiroki Ito are all unavailable for the guests.

Arsenal delivered yesterday, and we hope for more today!

Villa manager Unai Emery has showcased his skills in Europe on several occasions. In his previous clubs, he has only lost 3 out of a total of 20 group stage matches in the Champions League. Bayern’s boss, Kompany, is a novice at this level as a manager, but his start has produced a scoring record. The Belgian’s first seven matches as Bayern manager have yielded an impressive 30 goals. Both teams are strong offensively, and with players like Kane, Olise, Watkins, and Duran on the pitch, we are confident of goals for both teams tonight.
