Premier League: Brighton vs. Everton

Will the Moyes Effect Continue, or Will Brighton Prove Too Strong?

Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton endured an eight-match winless streak, seemingly slipping out of the race for European football. However, back-to-back victories over relegation-threatened Ipswich and their favorite opponents, Manchester United, have reignited their hopes. A solid 2-0 win at Portman Road was followed by a sixth win in seven attempts against United. Despite their resurgence, Brighton’s home record this season is modest, with just 5 wins, 1 draw, and 6 losses from their first 12 matches at the Amex.

Everton, still mired in the relegation battle, were desperate for a turnaround after three consecutive losses without scoring. Relief came on Sunday, as they stormed to a 3-0 halftime lead against Tottenham. Although they had to dig deep in the closing minutes, David Moyes’ men held on for a well-earned 3-2 victory. The Toffees suffered a heavy 0-3 home defeat to Brighton in the season opener and will now look to avoid a repeat performance.

Brighton

Premier League: Matt O Riley, Brighton

Evan Ferguson, James Milner, and Ferdi Kadioglu remain sidelined, while Lewis Dunk and Matt O’Riley are doubtful for Saturday’s clash. On a positive note, Jack Hinshelwood is set to make his comeback after a long injury layoff. After their eight-match winless run, the Seagulls have now won two consecutive games, rekindling hopes of European qualification. However, they have struggled at home recently, winning just one of their last seven matches at the Amex and none of their last four Premier League home games.

Premier League: Liverpool – Ipswich

Everton

Iliman Ndiaye, Everton

The Toffees continue to miss Dwight McNeil, who may require surgery on the knee injury that has kept him out for the last eight matches. Seamus Coleman, Tim Iroegbunam, and Chelsea loanee Armando Broja are also out. Broja is not expected to return until April and may be sent back to Chelsea before then. On a brighter note, Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended a 16-match goal drought with a crucial strike against Spurs last weekend. Everton’s away form remains dire, with just one win in their last 21 Premier League away matches.
