La Liga: Madrid vs. The Rest

Everything suggests that the battle for the La Liga title will be between Madrid’s biggest clubs.

Everything suggests that the battle for the La Liga title will be between Madrid’s biggest clubs.

Madrid is well represented in La Liga with Atlético, Real, Rayo Vallecano, and partly Getafe and Leganés – no fewer than one-fourth of the teams in Spain’s top division hail from the capital region. Yet, it’s the two giants, Atlético and Real Madrid, who are poised to fight for the title.

The upper hand currently belongs to Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid. Los Blancos had a shaky start to the season, but as Kylian Mbappé has settled into the iconic white shirt, both performances and results have improved significantly. Mbappé’s brace helped Real cruise to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Las Palmas last weekend. With Real Madrid being the only top-three team to secure a win, they now sit at the top of the table.

A Confused Ancelotti

La Liga

Atlético Madrid stumbled with a shocking 0-1 loss to Leganés, snapping their impressive 15-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Barcelona managed only a narrow 1-1 draw against Getafe later that Saturday evening, marking their fourth consecutive draw at the Coliseum. With no teams left ahead of them, Real Madrid is now the clear favorite to claim yet another title, despite holding just a slim two-point lead over city rivals Atlético.

Mbappé has scored six goals in his last seven league games, and while Ancelotti is delighted with the Frenchman’s recent performances, he remains baffled by the criticism aimed at him and his team.

  • “Mbappé is in great form, and it’s helped us a lot. But I’m a bit confused because I’ve heard that we’re terrible at playing football. Yet, at the top, I only see Real Madrid. I’ll have to keep studying what we’re doing wrong. I won’t claim we’re the best team in the world right now, but we’re certainly not that bad either. We’re a well-organized team,” emphasized the Real Madrid boss in comments to the club's official website.

A Real Home Victory

Real Madrid enters as heavy favorites when they visit bottom-of-the-table Real Valladolid. Despite winning two of their last four games, Valladolid still finds themselves at the foot of the standings. Real Madrid, on the other hand, comes into this clash in superb form, with a 4-1-0 record in their last five matches. However, keeping clean sheets remains a challenge; they’ve managed it just once in their last six league games. This opens up a betting opportunity for both teams to score at José Zorilla on Saturday evening.

The weekend’s second bet takes us to San Sebastián, where Real Sociedad hosts Getafe. The visitors have a peculiar hold over Barcelona at home, as shown by their 1-1 draw last weekend, but away from home, their performances have been underwhelming this season. A 2-1 victory over Las Palmas two weeks ago was their first away win of the 2024/25 campaign. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad has been solid at home with a 3-1-0 record in their last four matches, keeping clean sheets throughout. At odds close to 2.00 for a home win, we’ll confidently back the Basques to secure all three points. Good luck with your La Liga weekend bets!
