The Championship: Cardiff City on the right path

Cardiff, who had just one point and two goals scored after seven league rounds, continued their progress by winning 2-0 at home against Portsmouth. The Welsh side has now taken 10 out of the last 12 possible points, scoring seven goals in their last two matches. Leeds and Cardiff were the only winners on Tuesday, as the other five matches ended in draws. Oxford remains unbeaten at home at Kassam Stadium after a 1-1 draw with Derby. The bottom clash between QPR and Coventry at Loftus Road also ended 1-1, while Stoke vs. Bristol City and Preston vs. Norwich both concluded with 2-2 scorelines.

Top Teams' Turn

More Championship games are on today, with top teams battling for the top spot. Five of the top six teams are in action. Fifth and sixth place on the table meet when WBA visits Blackburn at Ewood Park, while Sunderland, Burnley, and Sheffield United all have the chance to take the lead. We’ll give some extra attention to the match between Luton and Sunderland.

Luton – Sunderland

The Championship
Carlton Morris, Luton

Luton has struggled since their relegation but impressed on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Watford at Kenilworth Road. Jordan Clark, Carlton Morris, and Jacob Brown scored, while Elijah Adebayo – who netted double-digit goals in the Premier League last season – is still without a goal. Regardless, the performance against Watford was Luton's best of the season, providing some much-needed relief for manager Rob Edwards, who has faced criticism from the fans after a disappointing start to the season. Seven of the team's 11 points this season have been earned at home, and they hope to secure back-to-back home wins for the first time since April 2023.

Rob Edwards will need to be creative with his defensive lineup tonight, as center-backs Teden Mengi, Mads Andersen, and Thomas Holmes are all likely to miss the match due to injury.

The Championship

Sunderland finished 41 points behind Championship winners Leicester City last season, but this fall, it’s The Black Cats leading the way, with just two losses in their first ten games. No team has scored more than Sunderland's 19 goals. They edged Hull 1-0 away on Saturday, though Hull posed little threat, managing just one shot on target. Both of Sunderland’s losses this season have come away from home, against Plymouth and Watford. Their last visit to Luton ended in a 2-0 defeat, but four of their last six encounters have finished 1-1.

Sunderland will be without Ian Poveda, Niall Huggins, and defensive duo Aji Alese and Jenson Seelt tonight.

Betting Tips: Luton vs. Sunderland

The Championship

Yesterday's Leeds win and over 2.5 goals in the Leeds-Watford match delivered a good return, and we hope for more tonight.

With over 2.5 goals in four of Luton's last five games and Sunderland being the division's top scorers, we expect more goals tonight. We recommend betting on over 2.5 goals and a small wager on Elijah Adebayo finally getting on the scoresheet.
