Leeds could rise to the top, at least for a day.
Midweek round in The Championship, and we could see a new league leader again. Sunderland tops the Championship table but won't play until Wednesday. Neither will second-placed Burnley, giving Leeds United the chance to move all the way to the top. Here are our betting tips before tonight's match at home against Watford.
Leeds dropped points in their top match against Sunderland when Illan Meslier made a spectacular goalkeeping mistake in stoppage time. However, on Friday, Daniel Farke's men bounced back strongly, becoming the first team to take all three points against Sheffield United this season. They dominated significantly before halftime, but Largie Ramazani and Brenden Aaronson were among those who missed opportunities to give the fans at Elland Road something to cheer for.
Twenty minutes before the end, Sheffield United conceded their first goal in eleven hours when Pascal Struijk swept the ball into the net for 1-0. Substitute Mateo Joseph sealed the victory, capitalizing on a beautiful assist from Joel Piroe in the final minute of regular time. Ilia Gruev, Max Wöber, and Ethan Ampadu are unavailable for tonight’s match.
Watford is just two points away from 6th place, but they are a completely different team away from home compared to at Vicarage Road. On Saturday, they suffered a 0-3 defeat during their visit to Luton, marking their third consecutive away match that ended in a three-goal loss. They have a goal difference of 1-11 in their last four away games, and manager Tom Cleverley admitted after being thoroughly beaten by Luton that they have a serious away game complex. They also lost 0-3 the last time they visited Leeds at Elland Road. The Hornets will be without defensive duo Jeremy Ngakia and Kevin Keben tonight.
Leeds usually doesn’t hold back at home in front of their fans, while Watford, as mentioned, seems terrified outside their comfort zone at Vicarage Road. We recommend a draw (H), but Leeds with -1 is also a viable option. The same goes for over 2.5 goals.
