The Nations League kicks off this evening.
We had barely gotten a small taste of the club season in the European leagues before the national teams once again take center stage, just a few months after this summer's European Championship in Germany. The Nations League kicks off this evening, and Scotland and Poland are among the first teams to take action.
Scotland has put a very disappointing European Championship behind them. A 1-5 defeat in the opening match against host nation Germany put the Scots on the back foot from the first kick of the tournament, and with only one point from the subsequent matches against Switzerland and Hungary, the Tartan Army was sent home with their tails between their legs. However, despite the European Championship disappointment being just a few months ago, this still feels somewhat like a fresh start for Scotland.
Several of their key players, primarily Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, changed clubs this summer, and the midfield duo now plays together both at club level with Napoli and for the national team with Scotland.
Poland didn’t fare much better than tonight’s hosts in the European Championship. With a slightly injured Robert Lewandowski and, not least, a tough group alongside France, the Netherlands, and Austria, the Poles also managed only one point. The 36-year-old Lewandowski has had a roaring start to the season with Barcelona, and national team coach Michal Probierz naturally hopes the superstar will carry his goal-scoring form to Hampden Park tonight.
Prediction: Scotland to win (2,57) at 1xBet
Scotland has an impressive 7-1-0 record in their eight home games in Nations League history, and the Tartan Army creates an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams at Hampden Park. Meanwhile, Poland has won only two of their eight away matches in this tournament, so we're backing Scotland as the favorites here and placing a few units on a Scottish victory!
