An important clash in the Nations League – Level D, as Andorra visits the inhospitable location of Chișinău. Don't get me wrong; I’ve never been to the capital of Moldova, and it surely has plenty of beautiful things to offer. But as an away team, there are many other places you'd prefer to play than here. Here's our betting tip for Friday's match.
As if the surroundings weren't challenging enough, little Andorra will also face Serghei Cleșcenco. With a long playing career behind him, he is well on his way to becoming a legendary coach. No other Moldovan national team coach can boast similar results, and under Cleșcenco, the team has earned points in 17 out of 28 matches, including against Poland (twice), Austria, and the Czech Republic. These impressive results have lifted Moldova 31 places in the FIFA rankings.
Moldova, although missing goalkeeper Koselev and defender Posmac, has full points after one game. They beat Malta 2-0, which puts them at the top of the group despite having played one game fewer. Malta defeated Andorra away a month ago, and while this reasoning might be simplistic, it suggests that Moldova should be able to handle Andorra.
Andorra might occasionally surprise on their artificial home turf, but away from home, they've only beaten San Marino and Liechtenstein this century. In their three visits to Moldova, they've managed just one draw, which came back in 2013. They lost 1-0 in 2019 and 2-1 in 2022.
So, why the good odds? The answer is that bookmakers expect few goals. We agree with that. However, we believe the difference in odds compared to a straightforward bet is too large, so we're willing to take the risk and place the following betting tip:
