Tour de France 2025 Stage 14 brings 4 brutal climbs, nearly 5,000 metres of elevation, and a summit finish at Superbagnères. The GC battle could explode.

🚵‍♂️ Welcome to the mountains: Tour de France 2025 Stage 14 means business

After a punishing time trial in Peyragudes, the Tour de France 2025 Stage 14 throws the peloton straight into the deep end with one of the hardest mountain stages of the race.

With 4,950 metres of vertical gain over 182.6 km, this is a brutal, unrelenting day through the heart of the Pyrenees. Four serious climbs await, including the legendary Col du Tourmalet and a summit finish at Superbagnères, a climb that hasn’t featured in the Tour for 36 years.

📈 It’s all uphill from here

The first 70 km are relatively easy — but don’t be fooled. From Luz-Saint-Sauveur, the road kicks upward for nearly 100 km of mostly continuous climbing.

The Col du Tourmalet is the first major test. A true Tour icon, it often sorts contenders from pretenders. With its steep middle sections and high-altitude summit (2,115m), it's not just a warm-up — it’s a graveyard for the unprepared.

Then comes the shorter but punchy Col d’Aspin, and shortly after, the Col de Peyresourde. With no real valley to regroup, the riders then tackle the final ascent to Superbagnères.

🎯 GC stakes: Do or die

With Tadej Pogacar now in yellow and showing no signs of weakness, the question is no longer if he will attack — but when.

Tour de France 2025 Stage 14 is arguably the best remaining opportunity for his rivals to claw back time or limit losses. If Jonas Vingegaard has any hope of turning the tables, he may need to go early — perhaps on the Peyresourde.

But the descent is short and the final climb long, meaning any move needs to stick until the end. A high-risk game with high rewards.

🔥 Climb profile: Superbagnères

The final climb hasn’t been used since 1988, when Robert Millar (now Philippa York) triumphed. It’s deceptive: while it averages 7.3%, the final two kilometers pitch up to 10%, making it a cruel sting in the tail.

There’s nowhere to hide — if the legs are gone, the gaps will grow quickly.

🧠 Prediction: GC battle or breakaway glory?

Will Pogacar try to seal the Tour with a third consecutive mountain victory? Will Visma | Lease a Bike throw their last dice with Vingegaard? Or will the day go to the breakaway?

Expect Sepp Kuss, Thymen Arensman, and Michael Woods to try their hand if the GC men play it safe. But this is a stage made for big gaps and bold moves.
